Initial impressions
The embarkation process was very smooth, with the whole process taking about 45 minutes from arriving to departing. Upon arrival, we received welcome drinks and pastries in the main lounge.
The decor of the ship is traditional and classic, with a subtle touch of elegance and plenty of modern art pieces. You could certainly tell that the ship had been refurbished in 2016.
Life on-board
Accommodation
We visited a Balcony stateroom and a Suite. They were both spacious and clean, with a separate shower and bath.
The Suite had a walk-in wardrobe which was a nice touch, with a little more room in the bathroom when compared to the Balcony – perfect for getting ready!
Both accommodations have glass-fronted balconies with sun-loungers and chairs, great for relaxing in privacy. The decor in the rooms is outstanding, with the bathrooms finished to a high standard and beds made up of fine bedding.
Entertainment and activities
Oceania Marina’s on-board entertainment isn’t aimed at families or children, though it will accept children from the age of six months. All entertainment options are more aimed at adults, including performances of The Great American Song Factory and I Love Being Here With You: The Music of Peggy Lee. There’s also a casino and plenty of bars and lounges, with the entertainment style being classic and varied.
Dining and drinks
On-board Oceania Marina there is the main dining room, as well as six other dining venues. Most are formal, but not over the top, with the food presented to an excellent standard and all speciality restaurants included in the price, which is a great feature. The only chargeable dining venue is Privée, which is a private party for up to 10 guests.
We dined in the main restaurant, which is a gorgeous venue with grand chandeliers and waiting staff always on hand. We ate lobster and pasta to start, followed by finest beef, a vegetarian main and a chocolate lava pudding. Yum! The meal was outstanding and the food came very quickly. The staff were fantastic and made us feel very special throughout.
When you’re on-board, all dining is included though you may need to make reservations for certain venues. If you’re looking for the wine experience or room reservation then a surcharge does apply. You can also enjoy free unlimited soft drinks, bottles of water, cappuccino, espresso, teas and coffees.
Service
The service on-board Oceania Marina was exceptional, with every crew member happy to greet us and welcome us on-board. They were all attentive when serving food and drinks, and very polite and happy. Staff come from generations of experts in their fields, especially in wine and culinary aspects. The service did not disappoint!
We would both pay to visit this cruise ship, as its relaxed atmosphere, food, destinations and service all made us feel that we would enjoy a lovely holiday on-board. We felt it catered more to a middle-aged demographic, with no children, as everything on-board caters to adults.
Anyone who enjoys fine wine and good service would enjoy this ship!
Final verdict
The ship was nice, elegant and beautifully understated, with furnishings to the highest standard. The speciality restaurants were all equally gorgeous, with Red Ginger sticking out as a dining venue we would love to try. There is maximum space on-board for all guests, with plenty plenty of room to enjoy.
The main lobby included £3million worth of crystal, making it a stunning feature. The art throughout the ship equates to £30million pounds, with works from Damien Hirst and Picasso.
The atmosphere on-board is relaxed and serene, with the service second-to-none and plenty of space.
