Adelaide, Australia Luxury Cruises

As the capital city of South Australia, Adelaide is a cultural hotspot with fantastic nightlife, great places to eat out, a lively music scene and wonderful local art exhibitions. Visitors can also enjoy the city's golden, sandy beaches and fabulous architecture and design amongst other local tourist attractions. The city also maintains an efficient tram, bus and train service to help both locals and tourists get around easily and affordably. An oceanic cruise would not be complete without stopping in Adelaide to take in the sights and sounds of this vibrant city.

Sightseeing in Adelaide

Major attractions in Adelaide, aside from the great beaches and nightlife on offer, are often based around the events and festivals going on in the city. ‘Mad March' is one of the most exciting times to visit Adelaide as several events take place during this time of the year. Events in March include the Clipsal 500 supercar racing event, the Adelaide Fringe Festival and the WOMAD (World of Music Arts and Dance) Festival, all of which are sure to delight and entertain tourists. There are also, however, many sight-seeing opportunities for tourists who do not arrive in Adelaide during the festival season:

Port Adelaide

Port Adelaide is the city's historic harbour and a great place for visitors to take in some authentic Australian culture. The port boasts many interesting historic buildings and offers boat cruises and dolphin watching excursions, which are an essential part of any visit to Australia.

Adelaide Hills

Ascending the Adelaide Hills allows for fantastic views of the city, the plains and the surrounding areas. There is also a restaurant and souvenir shop at the top of the hills so you can relax once you reach the summit.

North Terrace

The North Terrace is a traditionally designed boulevard that leads past many of the sights that Adelaide has to offer. This easily accessible road leads visitors past the parliament and government buildings, the casino, the Adelaide museum, art gallery and botanical gardens, allowing people to choose from a range of attractions in one area of the city.

Shopping in Adelaide

The city centre houses a plethora of large shopping malls and department stores, in which tourists can easily search out and purchase souvenirs and mementos of their trip. The Rundle Mall is a pedestrianised road containing over 800 different shops and stalls and runs parallel to the North Terrace. Alternatively, the Westfield Marion shopping centre is Adelaide's largest mall and therefore very popular with locals and tourists. One of the city's other mid-sized shopping malls is the Tea Tree Plaza, which is easily accessible by public transport and surrounded by ample parking space.

Eating Out in Adelaide

One interesting point to remember when eating out in Adelaide is that many restaurants will allow you to bring your own wine and the staff will serve it for you. This will incur a small service charge on your bill but is likely to save you money when compared to ordering from the wine list.

Adelaide has a variety of different restaurants serving dishes from across the world including Italian, Chinese, Indian, French and many more. For eating out on a budget tourists should consider eateries such as Fasta Pasta or Hawker's Corner. For a more expensive but higher quality meal and ambience, try Adelaide's Shiki or Windy Point restaurant.
