Cesme Cruise Port

One of Turkey's most popular tourist destinations is the town of Cesme, lined with golden beaches and fronted by warm clear waters. There's plenty to do in this beautiful location, whether you're looking for outstanding shopping, delicious cuisine, a tour of the town's historic landmarks or if you're perfectly happy to relax on one of the many beaches in the area.

Sightseeing in Cesme

Cesme's attractions make for the perfect shore excursions during your time on a luxury six-star cruise in Turkey's clear blue waters. Take a tour of the town's imposing castle for a chance to browse the antiquities on display in the museum inside; or head to the restored Greek Orthodox church of Agios Haralambos to walk amongst white pillars and blue archways in this remarkably peaceful space.

Cesme Castle

Trips ashore may give you the opportunity to wander the arches and stairways of Cesme Castle, built in the sixteenth century to defend the town against attacks from the sea. Walk along the solid battlements of this perfectly-preserved fortress for some fantastic views of the town and the curve of the surrounding bay; or head down inside to see a range of ancient statues and artefacts in the castle's museum, which charts the town's maritime history through the ages.

Church of Agios Haralambos

A tour of the town might also reveal the Greek Orthodox Church of Agios Haralambos, originally built in the 1800s and the subject of an intensive restoration project. Lovingly returned to its former glory and now used as a venue hall, the pristine white interior makes for a beautifully peaceful sightseeing attraction during your time in Cesme. Be sure to search for photos of the church before its restoration too, for a full appreciation of the work involved in restoring its elegant white, blue and gold interior.

The choice of beaches around Cesme are often attraction enough for many visitors to the port, where tourists flock to be near the gorgeous, glass-clear sea. There's plenty to do if you spend some time around Cesme's Ilica, Sera and Ramo beaches, whether you're enjoying surfing, water skiing, windsurfing or parasailing in the bay – or simply relaxing on the soft sand and stretching out in the sun.

Shopping in Cesme

Cesme Marina village can offer you a great choice of shopping during your time ashore, and is home to plenty of designer clothing brands, both national and international. Alternatively, try the town's high street for a wider assortment of boutiques, where you may be able to get great deals on watches and jewellery. Be sure to try some home-made ice cream here too, which comes in a wide choice of flavours and makes the perfect treat during your time under the hot Turkish sun.

Eating out in Cesme

Hungry visitors will find themselves spoiled for choice during their time ashore in Cesme. Locally caught fish is a speciality, and comes in a huge variety of traditional Turkish favourites. Dine on mezze dishes in a restaurant by the sea, or take a seat at one of the Cesme's countless cafes for a cup of tea or coffee to wash down a perilously delicious dessert.
