Gdynia, Poland Cruise Port

Gdynia is one of the Poland's biggest seaports, located on Gdansk Bay on the Baltic Coast in the north of the country. Although recognised as one of Poland's youngest and most modern cities, Gdynia's history can be traced back as far as the 13th century, when it was a known as a small fishing village. Nowadays, the city has developed and expanded into a bustling metropolis and Poland's most important harbour. An exciting and diverse range of attractions can be found all over the city, including beautiful beaches, fascinating museums and stunning areas of natural beauty as well as an array of excellent shops, bars and restaurants. This enchanting region of Poland boasts a vibrant and dynamic ambience together with an exceptionally warm and friendly atmosphere, welcoming tourists and visitors from across the world.

Sightseeing in Gdynia

The beaches of Gdynia are in pristine condition and fairly quiet, when compared to those found in neighbouring Gdansk and Sopot, offering a chance to relax in the sun or participate in a range of thrilling water sports. The city also boasts a number of parks, gardens and areas of natural beauty including Tricity Sightseeing Park, the Seaside Promenade, the cliff and wooden pier in Orlowo and Kamienna Gora, which offers panoramic views of the Hel peninsula. The city's main sightseeing opportunities include:

Gdynia Aquarium

Situated on Gdynia's south pier, the city's fabulous aquarium offers visitors a chance to observe nearly 200 different species of fish, amphibian, reptile and invertebrates as well as a collection of marine flora and fauna. The aquarium was established in 1971 and is controlled by the National Marine Fisheries Research Institute of Gdynia. Fascinating educational exhibits within the attraction include a large cinema-conference room, a number of state-of-the-art laboratories and a wet room with an open top tank, allowing guests to touch the fish.

Dar Pomorza

Constructed in 1909, Dar Pomorza is a historical sailing vessel preserved in Gydinia's harbour as a superb museum ship. This majestic tall ship has served in various capacities since it was built at the beginning of the 20th century until its retirement in 1983.

ORP Blyskawica

The ORP Blyskawica is a colossal Grom-class destroyer ship used by Poland during the Second World War. The vessel is now a fascinating museum ship and the oldest preserved destroyer in the world. During the war, the vessel clocked around 146,000 nautical miles and was engaged in combat with U-boats, planes and other vessels.

Shopping in Gdynia

A range of department stores, speciality shops and marketplaces are found within Gdynia, offering visitors a wide variety of fabulous shopping experiences. Guests can head down to the shopping malls of Batory, Klif and Gemini or the city's two main shopping streets, named Swietojanska and Starowiejska, to find a collection of branded and independent retailers. The local market, known as Hala Targowa, sells fruit, fish and other produce.

Eating Out in Gdynia

A number of excellent restaurants, cafes and bars are situated across Gdynia, serving a variety of local and international cuisine from quaint seaside eateries to sophisticated establishments.
