Loreto, Mexico

The Sierra de la Giganta mountain range stretches along the Baja California Sur parallel, to the east coast of the peninsula where Loreto is located. Hiking and cycling through this magnificent part of the state is particularly popular as it offers extraordinary views across the coastline of the peninsula. 

Misión de Nuestra Señora de Loreto Concho

This quaint mission church is located in the Conchó area of Loreto and offers visitor a taste of the region’s rich culture and heritage. The church was founded back in 1697and is the earliest successful mission is the state of Baja California Sur. It is sometimes referred to as the head and mother of all Spanish missions in Upper and Lower California.

Cave Paintings

Loreto is home to a series of ancient cave paintings, believed to have been painted up to 7,000 years ago during the pre-historic area. These incredibly intriguing archaeological sites can be found in several locations around Loreto and surrounding areas including Rancho San Gregorio, Cueva La Palma, Cueva El Borrego and in the Santa Teresa canyon.

Shopping in Loreto

Loreto has an abundance of gift and souvenir shops situated across town and along the coastline. Silver Desert is a great place to find authentic Mexican jewellery to purchase and take home as a memento.
