Fort San Fernando de Omoa

The Fortaleza de San Fernando de Omoa, also known as The Castle, is a Spanish fortress, once used to defend the town against attacks from pirates and buccaneers. The fort remained unused for centuries before it was opened to the public as a tourist attraction. Nowadays, guided tours of the castle are available, taking guests to view the many intriguing halls and chambers of the majestic and historic structure.

San Ignacio Ecological Playground

The San Ignacio Ecological Playground provides fun for all the family, especially young people. This private reserve covers an area of around 300 hectares and is home to a variety of delightful exhibits and activities. The zoo area of the attraction houses 65 different species of animals including many endangered wildlife such as pumas, jaguars, water buffalo, giant boas, monkeys and ostriches. Elsewhere in the park, visitors can fish in the lagoons, stroll along the scenic walking trails, eat in the restaurants or go for a swim in the pools.

San Fernando de Omoa Water Park

One of Omoa's most popular attractions if the San Fernando de Omoa Water Park, which is home to a range of exhilarating water slides and large swimming pools. The attraction also features a small bar and ice cream shop and is open from Wednesday to Sunday most weeks.

Shopping in Omoa

A range of small shops and stalls are located around the town of Omoa, selling a range of souvenirs, gifts, provisions and amenities. For a more lively shopping experience however, tourist should consider a trip to the nearby city of Puerto Cortes.

Eating Out in Omoa

Several excellent local restaurants are located within the town of Omoa. Seafood dishes are a local favourite, due to the town location of the Caribbean Coast, but visitors will also be able to purchase a variety of more familiar western and international cuisine and snacks.
