Playas Del Coco, Costa Rica Cruise Port

A tropical paradise filled with pure white beaches, Playas Del Coco isn't just a popular port for travellers from abroad. Costa Ricans flock to this idyllic coastal locale during the spring and summer months, giving it a blessed air of authenticity compared to the more tourist orientated ports elsewhere. Wooden beach huts, colourful sandstone carvings and of course, those post-card perfect beaches are all waiting to be discovered along this unique coastline.

The size of Playas Del Coco is intimate yet offers plenty to do, with gorgeous beach front plazas and natural marinas make this one Costa Rican beauty spot that is sure to linger long in the memory its visitors. Make sure you're one of them .

Sightseeing in Playas Del Coco

Marino Las Baulas National Park

The pristine beaches of this national park border lush forests that are home to a wonderful array of wildlife, including 174 colourful birds gliding their way between the local mangroves and estuaries. The highlight of this particular reserve however, is undoubtedly the leatherback turtles that make it their nesting site each and every year. These magnificent creatures can weigh up to 900 kilograms, making them the largest reptile to be found anywhere on earth. Needless to say, visiting this beautiful parkland means getting to see them thrive in their natural habitat.

Manuel Antonio Beach

Sitting high above the national park that shares its name, the world-class views of the Manuel Antonio beaches truly have to be experienced to be believed. Set between the main town and the lush expanse of the eco-park, this secluded yet wonderfully sizable beach is both a great spot to enjoy a sunny afternoon and to get to grips with the wildlife. This quaint township is inundated with four species of monkeys, who populate the beaches and provide a comical aside to the epic views. Make sure to avoid the spider, howler and squirrel monkeys scampering off with your lunch however.

Playa Hermosa Guanacaste

Bookended by two lush mountainsides, Hermosa is rarely crowded, which is surprising considering the transcendent beauty of the whole area. The cliff sides framing the gorgeous stretch of Hermosa's sands offer protection from the winds of the coast, making it an absolutely perfect place in which to soak up the Guanacaste sunshine. Because of the calm surf, it's also an ideal spot for surfing, snorkelling and scuba diving, so be ready to enjoy a thrilling underwater adventure.

Shopping in Playas Del Coco

There are plenty of cosy boutiques to explore in Playas del Coco, but the real highlight are the street markets, which sell everything from wood-carved sculptures, to jewellery, handbags and clothing.

Eating out in Playas Del Coco

For an authentic Costa Rican dining experience, make sure to head to the brilliant range of Sodas (traditional eateries with fine patios for outside seating) offer local dishes lovingly prepared by experienced chefs. Make sure to indulge in the platters of grilled meats and seafood delicacies that are a firm favourite of natives and tourists alike.
