Sightseeing in St. Lucia

A range of exciting and exhilarating activities and excursion opportunities are on offer across the island of St. Lucia. Rainforest hikes are very popular through the lush tropical forests that cover large portions of the island. Visitors should always keep to the official stipulated hiking trails, which have been approved by the Ministry of Agricultural Forestry and Fisheries department. Climbing is also popular amongst seasoned climbers around the cliffs and volcanic mountains that dominate most of the region. Coastal activities such as scuba diving and snorkelling are also available on suitable beaches.

Pigeon Island Nature Reserve

Pigeon Island is a 40-acre islet situated in the northern area of St. Lucia. The islet was artificially connected to the main island of St. Lucia in 1972, by using excavated dirt to build a man-made causeway across the ocean that once separated them. The nature reserve consists of two imposing mountain peaks and is also home to a number of historic forts, built by the British in order to spy on the French. 

The Sulphur Springs

The Sulphur Springs of St. Lucia are one of the islands most popular attractions, located to the south of Soufriere. These dramatic natural landmarks are worth seeing whilst on the island and visitors are also invited to swim in the warm water that runs through them.

Gros Piton

Gros Piton is the second highest mountain on the island of St. Lucia and, standing at a height of around 780 metre, is an achievable climb for the majority of visitors to the region. Local guides are available to assist hikers in reaching the summit of the mountain, which offers spectacular views of St. Lucia and neighbouring Martinique.

Shopping in St. Lucia

There are several excellent locations at which to purchase a range of authentic local gifts and souvenirs. The best shopping experiences can be found at Castries Market, JQ Shopping Mall in Rodney Bay and La Place Carenage located in the Castries harbour. A selection of supermarket selling provisions and other amenities are also situated in the built-up areas of the island.

Eating Out in St. Lucia

Traditional local dishes, usually consisting of fish, fruit and vegetables, are available in restaurant across the island alongside a range of more familiar western cuisine. The best selection of eateries can be found in the regions of Castries, Vieux-Fort and Soufriere.
