Tarragona Cathedral

The Cathedral of Tarragona is a superb Roman Catholic Church constructed on the site of a Roman temple which dated back to the reign of Tiberius. Although very little is known about the origins of the cathedral, it was declared as a national monument in 1905. The cathedral displays both Romanesque and Gothic architecture throughout and incorporates a large number of smaller chapels within its vast and impressive walls.


The archaeological area of Tarraco, situated within the modern city of Tarragona, is one of the best-preserved and most important Roman sites in Sicily. In the year 2000, the entire area was named as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its incrediblly important archaeological significance as an example of Roman buildings and architecture. This part of Tarragona is home to many remarkable structures including the Roman walls, Provincial Forum, ancient aqueduct, Roman theatre and an early Christian cemetery.

The Roman Amphitheatre

Located close to Tarragona's Rambla Nova is the Amfiteatre Roma, an astounding structure dating back to the Roman era. The Amphitheatre is a beautiful building that also offers spectacular views out over the coastline of Tarragona.

Shopping in Tarragona

A variety of intriguing and colourful shops are situated along Rambla Nova, the town's main shopping street. A range of authentic Catalan arts, crafts, gifts and souvenirs can be found in the many shops along this lively street, alongside supermarkets and stores selling local foodstuffs and general provisions.

Tarragona is home to a number of local restaurants specialising in traditional Spanish dishes such as tapas, bocadillos and locally caught seafood, alongside a wide range of familiar and delicious international cuisine from across the globe.
