Villagarcia, Spain Cruise Port

A port which has been occupied since prehistoric times, Villagarcia is a beautiful township in the province of Pontevedra, Galicia. The tranquil River With runs through the centre of the village, displaying amazing rocky outcrops upon its banks. Situated at the heart of a sea inlet, Villagarcia is framed by a half moon of shoreline that extends in two stunning curves from the crux of the town. Undulating hills provide a sumptuous backdrop, and the climate means that the sky above the port is often a sweeping swathe of pastel blue. Verdant green forests are astride the border of the town, as are grassy plains and hill trails that criss cross through the valley this gorgeous village is situated in. FEDEXGA Fairgrounds

For a thrilling time, make sure to head to these famous fairgrounds, which are mere miles away from the port of Villagarcia. The largest fairgrounds in Galicia, these wonderful fairgrounds were originally opened for the purpose of hosting the Exhibition of Galicia, but today they are home to a wider range of events such as sports fairs, cultural festivals and competitions. For a bevy of colourful delights including local food fairs and football tournaments, make a beeline for this fantastic exhibition centre.

The Compostela and Concha Beaches

The luscious beaches of Compostela and Concha are some of the finest places to soak up sun in the whole of Galicia, and are only a short walk away from the centre of Villagarcia. They measure more than 3 miles long, and are famous for their fun filled promenades and local restaurants. The seafood here is top notch, featuring fresh shellfish and local clam and mussel specialities that will send connoisseurs into raptures. Lovely fishing villages, the mountains of Villagarcia and the beautiful estuary of Serro do Barbanza are also a walk away, making these glorious beaches a fine hub from which to explore.

San Roque and the Festa da auga

During 10 days around the 16th of August, the entire parish of Villagarcia comes together to celebrate the patron saint of Saint Roch. Thousands of people flood the streets in a colourful display, moving to the beat of musicians who accompany the parade. The image of the famous saint is taken from St. Roch's Chapel by this amazing procession, whilst  during the week a huge range of activites take place, such as free concerts from Spanish bands playing folk music well into the night, as well as an impressive fireworks display to top it all off. 

Shopping in Villagarcia

For amazing fashion boutiques featuring everything from high-end golf gear to tailor made dresses, head to Louxo la Toja. This shopping boulevard is a gorgeous spot in which to do go on a sun drenched shopping spree. Meanwhile, a visit to the village's promenades and plazas can lead to finding some amazing curios, such as antiques and furniture from the Muebles Cancelo.

Eating Out in Villagarcia

For incredible seafood and a warm, friendly atmosphere make a dinner date at Taberna do Carril on Rua da Xalda. The service in this cosy tavern is informal but wonderfully efficient, and the range of seafood dishes will satiate the heartiest appetite. The flavoursome scintillating servings of fresh mussels, cured cheeses and crab platters are a culinary delight, and not to be missed.
