Aalborg is a delightful, welcoming city in Jutland, and is sometimes referred to as the Paris of the North. That’s because its delightful heritage architecture sits side-by-side with more vibrant and contemporary bars and cafes, creating a wonderful blend of the old and new. There are numerous landmarks you’ll want to visit, including the charming 14th Century cathedral and the half-timbered Aalborghus Castle – always renowned as the “castle that doesn’t look like a castle”. Learn more about the 1,000 year history of the city and Jutland at the Aalborg Historical Museum, or enjoy a more modern exhibition at the House of Music.
Aalborg has some wonderful shops to explore. The high street has more upmarket boutiques for the fashion-conscious but wander into the side streets and you’ll discover a plethora of unique traders selling crafts, unique souvenirs and local produce. There are also a number of activities to enjoy, including an open-air swimming pool and a popular zoo with a wide variety of animal species, along with a wealth of restaurants to sample local cuisine and popular international dishes.
The currency in Aalborg is the Krone. Aalborg is 2 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT +2).
