Daphne Island (Galapagos)

Daphne Major Island, or Isla Daphne Grande, is a volcanic crater island in the Galapagos. It’s a breath-taking destination, rising high from the sea at all angles to give it an imposing and dramatic image. Unfortunately, travellers are not permitted to land on the island, as only scientists studying the wildlife have this right. Yet your luxury cruise ship will get you as close to the island as possible, so you can still enjoy all that it has to offer whilst relaxing in absolute comfort with a cocktail in hand, or your camera.

And what it does offer is a vast array of seabird species, ideal if you’re a passionate ornithologist or a photographer who wants to capture a dramatic wildlife shot. You’ll likely see Nazca and Blue-footed Boobies, Red-billed Tropicbirds, Brown Noddies, frigatebirds, Brown Pelicans and Swallow-tailed Gulls either resting on land or flying high above the island. It’s a marvellous sight to see so many exotic birds at once, and it is sure to inspire awe for all who visit on a luxury ship as part of your Galapagos adventure.

Daphne Island is 6 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT -6).
