The Gallipoli Peninsula is located in north western Turkey, close to the city of Istanbul. The region is most famous for the many First World War battlefields distributed across the peninsula, as well as the many impressive commemorative memorials that sit on the north bank of the Dardanelles Straight. Despite Gallipoli’s main tourist attraction being rooted in sombre ground, the area also boasts an excellent Mediterranean climate and a number of areas of stunning natural beauty, including lush pine forests, rolling green hills, exquisite olive gardens and spectacular coastal views. The battlefields and monuments of Gallipoli are complimented by the surrounding scenery, offering an ideal location for visitors to go for a hike, appreciate the wonders of nature and reflect on the incredible sacrifices made by the armed forces during the First World War.
Gallipoli is one of Turkey’s most historically significant destinations; due to its history as the location for some of the most important and noted battles of the First World War. The region is also well-known as an area of astonishing natural beauty. Guided tours of the peninsula are available, or alternatively, visitors can take matters into their own hands and navigate the various cultural and historical attractions themselves.
The three main battlefields of Gallipoli are Cape Helles, Sulva Bay and Pine Ridge, which is also known as Anzac. Visitors can explore and learn more about these fascinating battlefields and their solemn history. The battlefields are amongst the region’s most popular tourist attractions.
The enormous and tragic loss of life in Gallipoli during the First World War is commemorated at a series of landmarks and monuments across the peninsula. The most significant and important monuments in the region include the Cannakale Martyr Memorial and the British Memorial at Cape Helles as well as Anzac Cove, Pine Ridge Australian Memorial, New Zealand Monument, Chunuk Bair and the Ataturk Statue.

A series of shops and bazaars are littered throughout the peninsula of Gallipoli selling a wide range of practical amenities as well as locally produced gifts and souvenirs. Turkey is famous for its production of quality leather goods, which are available in abundance across the region, alongside other items including mother of pearl, copper goods and embroidery.
