Situated on the Coral Bay segment of Port Phillip Bay, Geelong can be found within the Australian state of Victoria, 70km south west of the city of Melbourne. The Carousel
A wonderfully restored Carousel is located on the city’s fabulous waterfront. This Armitage-Herschell portable steam-driven, hand-carved wooden carousel is one of only 200 in the world and was original made in 1892. The carousel features 36 horses and 2 chariots and in 1996 it was meticulously restored by the Steampacket Place Development Board.
Geelong Botanical Gardens
Relax in picture perfect surroundings and observe an incredibly range of beautiful flora and fauna from across Australia and the rest of the world. Guests can look in the park’s intriguing Curiosity Cabinet and see a variety of fascinating carnivorous plants. The Geelong Botanical Gardens is one of many parks and green spaces found in the region.
National Wool Museum
This surprisingly entertaining attraction is packed full of interesting exhibits, celebrating the enduring yarn of Australian wool. The museum features a range of colourful displays charting the history of wool in the region and also contains a gift and souvenir shop as well as a splendid restaurant.
Shopping in Geelong
Two of the largest shopping malls in Geelong are the Market Square and Westfield Shopping Centre, where visitors can purchase a wide variety of gifts and souvenirs as well as general amenities. A collection of smaller independent speciality stores are also situated around the centre of town, offering an array of both quirky and practical items.
