Halifax, Nova Scotia Port
If you’ve any interest at all in maritime history, you’ll love your visit to Halifax. Even if it’s not a particular passion, you can’t help but be won over by the fascinating attractions all centred around the waterfront of the Nova Scotia capital, giving detailed insights into the rich heritage of this amazing part of the world. The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is an absolute highlight, being home to the world’s leading collection of Titanic memorabilia and artefacts including a surviving deck chair from the wreckage. You’ll also want to take a look at the Immigration Museum, found at Pier 21, which is alive with stories of the characters who immigrated to Canada during the 20th Century. Don’t miss the Bluenose II either – an impressive schooner docked permanently in the city, it’s considered to be the floating ambassador for the whole of Nova Scotia.
Outside the town, it’s worth paying a visit to Peggy’s Cove. It’s a more relaxed location, should you wish to escape the bustle of the city, and it is home to the renowned Peggy’s Point Lighthouse, decorated in classic red and white.
The currency in Halifax is the Canadian Dollar. Halifax is 3 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT -3).
