La Coruna, Spain
Located on the north western coast of Spain, La Coruna is a busy port city with the country’s Galicia region. Castillo de San Anton
This impressive 16th century castle is one of a number of strategic fortresses built to defend the city of La Coruna, alongside Castillo de Santa Cruz and Castillo de San Diego. Construction of the castle began in 1587 on a small island in the bay of La Coruna, and it successfully defended the region from a British attack in 1589, despite being unfinished. The castle is now open to the general public and houses the fascinatin Archaeological and Historical Museum of La Coruna.
Aquarium Finisterrae
The Aquairum Finisterrae, which means Aquarium of the end of the world, is an interactive attraction displaying and promoting the preservation of a variety of marine species. The aquarium contains a number of brilliant exhibitions including jellyfish, seahorses, clams and octopi amongst many other aquatic creatures. The centre also features museum-like displays and a low pool where visitors can get up close to animals such as starfish and turbots.
Torre de Hercules
The Torre de Hercules is an ancient lighthouse on the coast of La Coruna. Although the date of construction is unclear, the lighthouse is known to have existed during the 2nd century and is the recognised as the world’s oldest Roman lighthouse still in use.
