Port Stanley, Falkland Islands Port
The capital of the Falklands, Stanley is a charming town on the tip of East Falkland Island. The Falklands have long been used as a stopover point for ships heading for Cape Horn, and the tumultuous seas and environment are clear to see when you discover the many ruins of vessels around the harbour. And of course, the Falklands were at the centre of a major conflict between Argentina and the UK, and any guests with an interest in this history can explore the battlefields and see the still live landmines (from a safe distance, of course) that are clearly marked in the countryside.
Most visitors to Port Stanley and the Falklands are interested in the various species of wildlife that call this region home. Specifically, the Falklands have some of the largest colonies of rockhopper penguins in the entire world, who are so accustomed to humans that you can get up close and watch them as they head down to fish in the sea. You can also see the more playful Gentoo penguins in Bluff Cove, a tiny inlet with its own wildlife haven.
The currency in Port Stanley is the Falkland Pound. Port Stanley is 3 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT -3).
