Porto Vecchio is a town blessed with the elegance of the French Coast, but with a rugged landscape that distinguishes it from the usual rigmarole of tourist traps. The water is clear, the beaches are pristine, and the people are abundantly friendly, but best of all, there's the entirety of the Porto Vecchio gulf to explore, with all the delights that come with it.
The mountainous peaks of the Alta Rocca region give Porto Vecchio a thrilling edge over its French Island peers, especially when there is so much to be explored. Gorges, rivers and waterfalls provide endless opportunities for rock climbing, hiking, and biking, and all within the space of a single, awe-inspiring region. But alongside this natural beauty is a plethora of restaurant terrace and designer shops in the town centre, welcoming visitors with a simple elegance beyond compare.
The flawless sands of this beach are home to not just tourists with supreme taste, but a loyal following of holidaying locals who have made it an authentic, albeit popular experience. The long shoreline is bookended by towering mountains on either side, with a verdant spread of pine forests providing a lush backdrop to the scenic villas of the town.
A visit to the nearby Marinas can bring you into the riveting underwater world surrounding Porto Vecchio, as experienced scuba guides take you down into the depths, and let you experience the breath-taking diversity of the marine life.
The Alta Rocca mountain range is an ideal from which to get a picture perfect view of the whole coastline. The serenity of the mountain scenery, combined with the sun-drenched climate make for a day trip you're likely to never forget, especially if you take up the chance to hike and climb from the epicentre of Col de Bavella, which rewards a journey to its summit with an incomparable view of the granite peaks of Aigulles de Bavella.
A former medieval citadel, Bonfacio is just half an hour's drive south from Port Vecchio. It's definitely worth the trip, as this secluded part of the coast is a beachcomber's dream, a quietly triumphant stretch of golden sands framed by marvels of history. The citadel itself is a stunning remnant of the intriguing history of Porto Vecchio which has been beautifully preserved by the local institutions, giving this prime tanning spot an adventurous edge.
The Old Town of Porto Vecchio is a prime spot in which to enjoy a shopping spree. The trendiest of designer clothes shops, a fine range of confectionery stalls and not a few hidden antiques vendors winding through the sun-dappled streets make for a fantastic place to find a souvenir.
Les Trois Deux is not only home to some of the finest seafood cuisine on Corsica, but a superb location overlooking mountain peaks and azure waters. Make sure to indulge in the fresh crab and lobster, brought in fresh from the harbour.
