Sightseeing in Tauranga

Whilst staying in Tauranga, why not spend a day or an afternoon in one of the beautiful parks and gardens situated across the city. The Te Puna Quarry Park, Longridge Farm and Marshalls Farm offer the ideal place to relax within splendid surroundings. Alternatively, visitors can take a walk along the astonishing coastline or take part in coastal activities such as fishing and sailing. 

White Island

The White Island is New Zealand’s only active volcano and an essential sight for tourists staying in Tauranga. Tours of the island are available to visitors, conducted by highly knowledgeable tour guides, trained to keep tourist safe as they navigate the rocky cliffs and craggy areas of this volcanic area. Although it may seem treacherous at times, a journey to the island is rewarded with spectacular views and the chance to experience the wonders of an active volcano up close.

Mount Maunganui

Mount Mauganui is a terrific district of Tauranga, synonymous with exquisite beaches and a range of exhilarating water sports, the most popular of which are diving and surfing. Throngs of visitors flock to this part of the city every year, drawn by its immaculate coastline and relaxed, laid-back ambience. 

Katikati Bird Gardens

This truly magnificent park is an excellent example of the natural beauty often associated with New Zealand. Located on the inner edge of the Tauranga harbour, the Katikati Bird Gardens are an area of splendid wetland and home to an array of fascinating flora and fauna, including the native New Zealand Kea amongst many other wonderful species.

Shopping in Tauranga

Tauranga is home to two main shopping areas – downtown or central Tauranga as well as Bayfair, also known as the Mount. These districts contain an assortment of shops and stalls selling all kinds of gifts, souvenirs and trendy fashion garments alongside a range of general amenities and provisions.

Eating Out in Tauranga

A large number of excellent restaurants and cosy eateries are located around the central areas of Tauranga, especially along the street known as The Strand. Visitors will find a terrific range of international cuisine served alongside local favourites, with both indoor and outdoor tables, at a variety of welcoming establishments.
