As the largest of the Canary Islands, Tenerife attracts throngs of visitors from across the world, many of whom arrive aboard a feature-packed vessel as part of a cruise getaway. Most people come to Tenerife to enjoy the island’s beautiful beaches and vibrant nightlife, but the region also boasts an array of verdant forests, vast deserts and dramatic mountains which create spectacular scenery.
Tenerife’s dramatic volcanic landscape is well worth exploring, from the golden sandy beaches to the towering El Teide Mountain. The area is also popular with scuba divers, who arrive in their numbers to dive into the underwater wonderland that surrounds the island.
The stunning volcanic Canary Island of Lanzarote has an impressive and inspiring landscape, formed over millions of years of volcanic eruptions and lava surges. The island is perhaps most popular with tourists, however, for its many pristine beaches and miles of rugged coastline, offering the perfect place to relax and soak in the beautiful scenery.
There is plenty for active visitors to enjoy too, including hikes to the dramatic Timanfaya National park and the Montanas del Fuego – also known as the Mountains of Fire. The island’s more built up areas also boast a profusion of authentic local restaurants, offering a great place to sample traditional Spanish cuisine.
Although Gran Canaria is only the third largest of the Canary Islands, it is by far the most heavily populated and boasts an incredibly diverse range of natural and man-made attractions. The island’s sand dunes are very popular with hikers and outdoorsy travellers, while the miles of golden sandy beaches that stretch along the scenic coastline offer great place to unwind in the abundant sunshine.
Gran Canaria is also a hotspot for water sports – scuba diving in particular. The ocean waters that surround the island are brimming with colourful and tropical fish waiting to be discovered, and a number of notable diving schools are located along the coast, so both beginners and advanced divers can get involved.
The Canary Islands each offer their own distinctive charm and culture, and have long been an especially popular holiday destination. On a luxury cruise, you'll have chance to see them all on one amazing escape
