Even if you’re a relatively regular visitor to the Six Star Cruises website, you may not necessarily know that from time to time, we like to do our bit for a very worthwhile cause and one which is especially close to our hearts, too. As a cruise retailer, it’s only fitting that the charity we choose to help out has links to the ocean, in this case, Sail 4 Cancer.
For anyone not in the know, Sail 4 Cancer is the brainchild of a group of sailors who set the charity up in 2001 and who had all lost a close friend or relative to cancer. The main purpose of Sail 4 Cancer is to provide water-based respite days and holidays for families affected by the disease, but it also contributes to the upkeep of care centres and also makes donations to research funds which investigate the positive effects exercise can have in helping to prevent cancer, as well as aiding recovery.
Our involvement really began when, together with the charity, our sister site Cruise118.com set up the John Bloodworth Fund to celebrate the life of its former chairman John Bloodworth, who lost his battle with cancer on 12 October, 2011, at the age of 62. Since then, at Six Star Cruises, we’ve been firmly behind the charity, raising money through the fund by way of a number of commendable endeavours, most recently when our Managing Director James Cole and Sales Director Ryan Johnston headed over to France in April to complete the 2013 Paris Marathon.
We’re always looking for new ways to help out, so that’s why we thought it would be a great opportunity to invite you to get involved too. With that in mind, we’ve pledged to donate £10 to Sail 4 Cancer for every booking made until close of business on October 31. So, if you’re thinking of booking a last-minute getaway or your luxury escape for next year, this month would be a great time to do it, as you’ll contributing to a very worthy cause, too.
Of course, if you are planning to undertake any challenges yourself in support of cancer awareness, everyone at Six Star Cruises would like to wish you all the best in your efforts.
