After four years in the making, this long anticipated cruise ship has finally graced the seas.
Comprising the work of thousands, this innovative new ship represents a momentous occasion for Celebrity Cruises and the cruising industry altogether.
The journey of Celebrity Edge
A ceremony was hosted on-board Celebrity Edge while she was docked in the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France. Here, 1,377 crew members from 72 different countries met with Royal Caribbean’s Chairman and CEO, Richard D. Fain and Celebrity Cruises’ President and CEO, Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, who said:
“Today is a very special day for all of us as we have been eagerly anticipating this moment for more than four years. There are so many aspects of Celebrity Edge that are more groundbreaking than we could have ever imagines, and it is all a testament to the hard work, creativity and talent of everyone who helped bring this magnificent ship to life.”
It’s been a real journey to watch each stage be unveiled to the industry, and see the ship take shape piece by piece. From the grand reveal of her stunning spa facilities to the extraordinary dining venues, she is set to wow cruisers both seasoned and new-to-cruise for years to come.
The ship is already on her way to her homeport at T25 Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where she will spend her inaugural season sailing the Caribbean, starting on 9 December 2018.
Moving into spring 2019, Edge will then cross the Atlantic once more to offer Mediterranean sailings across seven- to 11-nights.
With the teamwork of countless members of engineers, architects, contractors, shipyard employees, new-build teams and designers including Kelly Hoppen, it’s astounding to finally see her come to life as Celebrity Cruises welcome Edge with open arms.
