Ultra-luxury line Crystal Cruises has recently announced three of the celebrities and public figures who will be guest speakers on two of its voyages for 2014.
The first three speakers to be announced are former MP Edwina Currie, author Kathy Reichs and broadcaster Sue MacGregor, who will each provide an insight into their respective careers on two voyages aboard the line’s Crystal Serenity vessel, which will take place in March and April 2014.
Edwina Currie will be aboard the luxury ship for the March 10 Temples and Safaris voyage, travelling between Singapore and Capetown, while Kathy Reichs and Sue MacGregor will step aboard the vessel on March the 28 in time for the All-Alluring Africa sailing, which travels from Cape Town to Southampton.
Liverpool-born Edwina Currie is perhaps best known for controversially speaking out on the dangers of salmonella in eggs during her time as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Health in 1988, when a serious food-poisoning outbreak occurred in Britain. She is also known for introducing nationwide screening for breast and cervical cancer and also for her revealing diaries, which were published in book form in 2002. Since losing her parliamentary seat following Labour’s 1997 victory, she turned her hand to writing full-time and is the author of 11 best-selling novels. She also enjoys a successful media career and is a well-known TV and radio commentator.
Kath Reichs became a New York Times bestselling author upon the publication of her very first novel Deja Dead in 1997 and brought a thoroughly realistic aspect to forensic thriller writing thanks to her career as a forensic anthropologist in which she taught FBI agents how to detect and recover human remains. She still works in a similar capacity and is one of only 77 forensic anthropologists certified by the American Board of Forensic Sciences and is a professor in anthropology at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. She is also the producer of the successful TV series Bones, which is based on her novels.
Oxford-born broadcaster Sue MacGregor was brought up in South Africa and is best-known for her time with the BBC, during which she presented Woman’s Hour for 15 years. Following this she was co-presenter of the Today Programme and then host of the book discussion show A Good Read. Today, she is a popular fixture on Radio 4, where she presents the award-winning show The Reunion.
