Crystal gets jazzed-up for June

Ultra-luxury cruise line Crystal Cruises has recently announced that it will be operating new a Jazz-themed cruise on-board its Crystal Symphony vessel next year.

The Skyscrapers to Ice Castles voyage, travelling from New York to Reykjavik, will feature performances from a number of internationally-renowned jazz artists who will perform throughout the ship in its nightclubs, lounges and dance floors. From mid-day mood music and dances in the ship’s Starlite Lounge to late-night, intimate sets in the saloon and nightclub, guests can enjoy cool jazz vibes from noon until night, as the talented line-up of musicians play all the classics from this classiest of musical eras.

The bill comprises acclaimed band leader Pieter Meijers and his quartet, trumpeter Dave Tatrow, Jazz and Ragtime pianist Randy Morris, bassist and vocalist Nicki Parrott, saxophonist Antti Sarpila, drummer Danny Coots and pianist-singer Yve Evans.

Philip Ordever, Crystal Cruises’ Vice President of International Sales and Marketing, said of the cruise: “From the sites of North America’s most historic destinations to the sounds of America’s most home-grown music, this will be a very special sailing. While all of these musicians are accomplished performers with extensive repertoires, it’s especially exciting to hear the magic that happens when they mix it up and play together in unexpected combinations.  With trios, quartets, big bands, vocalists, pianists, our Galaxy Orchestra and other assorted entertainers, Crystal Symphony will be exceptionally alive with great music.”

The Crystal Symphony will begin her journey with a shipboard overnight stay in New York, then explore the highlights of New England and Canada, including Newport, Rhode Island; Boston, Massachusetts; Bar Harbor, Maine; Halifax, Nova Scotia; and St John’s, Newfoundland, before reaching her final destination Reykjavik, where guests will enjoy an overnight stay and the opportunity to view the midnight sun.

The beat is set to go on for Crystal too, as the line is planning a second jazz themed cruise on-board the Crystal Serenity, during her November 2014 Panama Canal voyage.
