Seabourn set to expand expedition fleet by 2021

Luxury cruise line, Seabourn has recently announced their expedition fleet will be expanding with new ships planned to launch for June 2021 and May 2022.

The launch follows the cruise line’s innovation to offer a more immersive experience for cruisers and cater to the market for expedition sailings in the ultra-luxury cruise industry.

Expansion of a luxury market

The announcement comes as the expedition cruise market continues to grow, with more than thirty cruise ships on order for expedition cruising.

Seabourn have signed a letter of intent for the construction of two ultra-luxury expedition ships to be built by the T. Mariotti and Damen Shipyard Group. Seabourn President, Richard Meadows called the announcement “a ground-breaking moment for Seabourn and for luxury travellers”.

Meadows went on to say:

“This is a groundbreaking moment for Seabourn and for luxury travelers, who will now find a new standard of authentic yet luxurious expedition adventures in new and amazing destinations few people will ever see. The combination of immersive experience, fine accommodations, and sumptuous amenities offered by these new ships builds on the success of our current product lineup and further demonstrates our leadership as innovators as we continue offering the finest ultra-luxury cruises available.”

Guests on the ships can meet wilderness experts, scientists and historians, each offering expert insight into the environment, background and nature of the destinations visited.

Excursions are often led via Zodiac with experts guiding the way to educational trips and unforgettable experiences.

The two new ships will offer 264 passengers the chance to book one of the 132 suites on-board, with two submarines, 24 Zodiacs, and kayaks to provide guests with the ultimate in expedition cruising. The amenities will also feature classic Seabourn touches such as balcony suites, high-end dining and plenty of luxurious facilities.

“It’s been amazing to watch the growth of our expedition-style experiences since our first sailing to Antarctica in 2013 through today, where we now offer the Ventures by Seabourn program in a number of desirable destinations around the world,” said Robin West, Vice President of Expedition Operations and Planning for Seabourn. “A year ago we started developing the concept for this next chapter of our expedition story with dedicated ships built to take luxury travelers to the most coveted places on the planet and they will be thrilled to see these remote destinations in Seabourn style.”

Both ships will also sail to the Arctic and Antarctic regions, a firm favourite for expedition itineraries.
