Seabourn’s sailing art collection

Seabourn’s newest vessel, Seabourn Ovation, is due to wow art lovers and guests alike, as it will host a new world-class art collection when it launches in spring.

Following the expert guidance of designer Adam D. Tihany, ArtLink has curated, collected and placed almost 1,600 artworks on-board Seabourn Ovation, ready for her debut in May.

Artistic sailings

The collection is befitting of the ships sophisticated design, with the artworks effortlessly complementing the interiors. The vast collection also offers guests an exclusive opportunity to view art in an intimate atmosphere, enjoying each piece individually.

Richard Meadows, President of Seabourn, said:

“We’ve worked with Adam and the ArtLink team to bring a large collection of sophisticated, fresh pieces together to give anyone who travels on Seabourn Ovation a reason to wander the ship and appreciate these inspiring works.”

Unique pieces

Sourced over five continents and including works by nearly 120 artists, the collection includes pieces such as a stunning glass work by Luciano Vistosi named ‘Warrior the Second’. Created in 1991, the polished green crystal will be featured on deck 4 at the base of the Atrium.

ArtLink’s curatorial team also hand-selected black and white photographs from the 1960s. The photographs capture a forgotten era of elegance and glamour by American icons including Even Arnold, William Helburn and Alexander Liberman. The photos are displayed in Ovation’s The Grill restaurant, accompanied by two original lithographs by American abstract expressionist Frank Stella.

Artist Valeria Nascimento, who has previously created pieces for Seabourn Encore, created a wall sculpture for Seabourn Ovation’s restaurant, Sushi. Entitled ‘Black Coral’, the piece is made from black pigmented porcelain to represent the fragility of nature and projects an aura of indestructibility, despite the delicate nature of porcelain.

Tai Danai, founder and Creative Director or ArtLink, said:

“We wanted to capture with art the emotional experiences of travel, the fascination in discovering new worlds and cultures, both those visited and those encountered by the discoverer in the soul search, which, when it comes to art, was always the most intriguing aspect of new world discovery.”

Standing Ovation for her maiden voyage

Seabourn Ovation will be launched in 2018 as a sister-ship to Seabourn Encore and Seabourn Quest. She represents another stage in the cruise line’s evolution of intimate ship cruising, delivering a wealth of new concepts, fresh vision and illuminating ideas which will delight even the world’s most well-travelled passengers.
