Seabourn’s first expedition vessel

Seabourn has announced it is expanding the luxury fleet with the addition of two brand new expedition ship.

The first ship has already been named as Seabourn Venture, paying tribute to the line’s Ventures by Seabourn excursion programme. She will be launched in June 2021, followed by a sister-ship in May 2022.

The ships will aim to build on Seabourn’s growing presence in the expedition market, as well as offer luxury expedition experiences during their sailings. They will also be the cruise line’s first purpose-built expedition vessels.

The design team for some of the ships’ public spaces has been led by Adam D.Tihany, who is responsible for the Expedition Lounge, Discovery Center, Landing Zone and Atrium. These will feature on both of the new ships.

What’s on-board Seabourn’s expedition ships?

Seabourn has confirmed that each of the ships will be able to set sail across the globe, travelling farther north and south than any other ship in the fleet!

The ships will be built to PC6 Polar Class standards, meaning they can operate in both summer and autumn in medium first-year ice across Antarctica and the Arctic. They will also be supported by Azipod propellers which offer greater manoeuvrability.

They will also feature dynamic positioning systems which help the ships be more operationally flexible when maintaining its position.

There is 26,000 square feet of open deck space on-board, with various areas on the decks available to view wildlife and dramatic scenery. The ships will also include two on-board submarines for underwater exploration, as well as kayaks and 24 Zodiacs.

The accommodation will include 132 oceanfront veranda suites for up to 264 guests. While the crew comprises a 26-person expedition team who will regularly interact with guests and form part of the Seabourn Conversations program. This team provide insights into the history, ecology and culture of the destinations visited.

There will also be three new public spaces on-board Seabourn Venture, never seen before. These include the Expedition Lounge, Discovery Center and the Landing Zones. They will each be instrumental in creating a luxurious adventure for expedition travellers – capturing the rugged nature of the destinations alongside a feeling of comfort.

Expedition Lounge (Deck 4)

Situated in the heart of the ship, the Expedition Lounge will be the gathering place for guests to share photos and stories of their days with fellow travellers and staff. Here, guests can relax in the surroundings, with two large touchscreens available to display photos, navigational and weather charts, as well as maps.

Discovery Centre (Deck 4)

Next door, the Discovery Centre acts as the teaching and academic centre for cultural programming. This venue can house all 264 guests at the same time, perfect for lectures and enrichment programmes designed to educate guests through their expedition.

Landing Zones (Deck 3)

 

 

There are two landing zones on-board Seabourn Venture, one on each side of the ship. These will provide direct access to the ships’ 24 Zodiacs for excursions. Here, guests have room to change and clean their geat, while also providing space to store special equipment. In tropical locations, this will also be where guests acquire fins and masks.

Atrium

Serving as a focal point on Seabourn ships, the Atrium offers a skylit space with wood and metal detailing. Suspended at the centre of the Atrium is an art display which emulates traditional wind measuring instruments.
