Sète Joutes – a night of sporting thrills

If you don’t know what Sète Joutes is then you are about to find out, as I take you into this exciting event that you can enjoy as part of some luxury cruise excursions. A thrilling event, this spectacle offers a unique experience that you won’t have ever seen before, as Sète Joutes is otherwise known as Water Jousting.

Taking place in Sète in France, this event takes place as a tournament, where teams row with a jouster standing on a platform with a shield and a lance, measuring 2.8 metres. As they meet, the jousters try to knock their opponent off the boat and into the canal.

Water jousting dates back to the turn of the 17th century, in a small village called Agde. As time progressed, tradition became that teams of single men in a blue boat would compete against teams of married men in a red boat, with armours and weapons decorated accordingly. In its modern format, red and blue teams face off until one winning team remains.

It’s an exciting sport that is typical of the AzAmazing Evening events that you can enjoy with Azamara Club Cruises, as something that you would not normally be able to experience and something that will stay with you for life, creating original memories and stories to take home with you.

Of course with Azamara Club Cruises you won’t just be left sat on some cold bench while the festivities unfold. Rather you’ll relax in comfort, sipping wonderful French wines and snacking on canapés local to the region to create a luxurious evening as the sport takes place. It has the feel of an upper class festival, and it’s the perfect idea of a sporting event that has a long heritage and ties to the region that you wouldn’t find anywhere else.
