Silver Cloud embarks on its first Polar season

Fresh from her $40m refurbishment and transformation to an ice-class expedition ship, Silversea’s luxurious Silver Cloud has embarked on her journey through Antarctica and onward to the Norwegian Arctic, sailing through fjords and past grand glaciers, searching for polar bears, whales and walruses.

Inaugural expedition

In November 2017, Silver Cloud set sail from Buenos Aires on her first-ever expedition voyage, equipped with reimagined public spaces such as Tor’s Observation Lounge, a stunning venue with 180-degree views of the frozen land, and the Zàgara Spa where you can indulge in premium wellness therapies.

With only 200 guests on-board for Polar region cruises, a fleet of 16 Zodiacs provides ample opportunities for up-close exploration, as Silver Cloud visits destinations such as the Falkland Islands, the Antarctic Peninsula and Drake Passage.

Silversea CEO, Roberto Martinoli said:

“We are proud to celebrate this momentous occasion when the ship that launched Silversea on a path to redefine luxury travel now embarks on a new path to redefine expedition cruising.”

First-time features

The ship is one of the first to feature the Photo Studio, offering a vibrant and creative space where guests can master the art of digital photography with Masterclasses, using state-of-the-art equipment alongside a dedicated photo manager.

Silver Cloud also offers guided sea kayaking tours, allowing guests to get up-close and personal with the wildlife. This excursion proves both rewarding and ecologically friendly, with a team of 22 passionate expedition experts available to further enhance your voyage every step of the way.

Next season

Following her initial season in Antarctica, Silver Cloud will continue up Africa’s western coastline to Northern Europe and the Norwegian Arctic, where she will witness even more wildlife and wonderful nature as she cruises through the bays and past glaciers.

Then, she will undertake a series of expeditions in Iceland, Greenland and Canada, as well as Central and South America, before returning to Ushuaia for another season of exhilarating Antarctic expeditions.

After a successful first sailing, the luxury ship will continue to offer guests sublime accommodation, butler services and private verandas through the seasons. A perfect retreat for your inner explorer.
