Silversea to visit all seven continents in 2020

Only a few days into 2020, Silversea offers guests the chance-of-a-lifetime with their Legends of Cruising itinerary. This world cruise not only offers 141-nights of sublime sailing to 62 ports of call, but it will also make Silversea the first passenger line to visit all seven continents!

Silversea’s 2020 World Cruise

The Legends of Cruising doesn’t stop there, as it’s also the first world cruise to set sail to Antarctica – making it an extraordinary sailing to be part of. Your home for the journey is Silver Whisper, which will undergo major renovations in preparation for what is set to be the most luxurious adventure of its kind.

As an ambitious cruise, it comprises ports of call across the Americas, Asia, Europe, Antarctica, Africa and Australia.

North America

The cruise begins in Fort Lauderdale, visiting a couple ports in the Caribbean, including San Juan in Puerto Rico and Barbados’ Bridgetown. Puerto Rico offers vibrant nightlife and pristine beaches, while Bridgetown is steeped in history, culture and plenty to experience. After a short time in the Caribbean, guests then begin approaching South America for the second continent in the sailing.

South America

Here the sailing calls in Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina and then the Falkland Islands. During this segment, guests will call at Devils’ Island, just off the coast of French Guiana, which is the site for one of history’s most infamous prisons and the setting for the book Papillon. Though the prison closed in 1953, it lies dormant as a grim memory of what once was.

Antarctica

From the Falkland Islands, guest will sail around the southernmost tip of South America at Cape Horn, cross the Drake Passage and visit the Antarctic Peninsula where the breath-taking scenery speaks for itself. Here, guests can enjoy up-close encounters with penguin colonies and experience exploring an almost untouched continent.

Following this leg of the journey, guests will venture back to South America to visit ports including the Chilean Fjords where the expansive waters feature seals, dolphins and waterfalls, and then Easter Island where nearly 900 Moai stone heads stand across the island. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the most remote in the world and offers plenty culture and history. The sailing then crosses into the third continent with a visit to Pitcairn Island on the way to Australia.

Australia

In this segment, first explore the South Pacific with ports of call across French Polynesia including Tahiti and Bora Bora. This leg of the sailing not only includes these favourite ports, but also other off-the-beaten-path regions such as Fiji and Tonga.

Bora Bora offers you the chance to explore tropical waters and thatched wooden huts of locals, while Tonga comprises of 169 islands within its archipelago – of which, only 36 are inhabited. One of these is Uoleva Island where Silvers Whisper anchors and guests can spot humpback whales in the waters.

The sailing then continues to Sydney, Australia where the famous Opera House greets the horizon. From here, other ports of call include Melbourne, Kangaroo Island, Albany and Perth.

Asia

After Australia, the exotic segment of the cruise becomes more prominent as Silver Whisper departs for Indonesia where ports such as Bali and Java. Bali has grown in popularity as a holiday destination and it’s easy to see why. The region offers an array of pristine beaches, terraced rice fields and stunning historical sites to explore during your stay.

Sailing a little further, Singapore,  Phuket and Sri Lanka’s Colombo each offer their own slice of Asia. From Singapore’s super trees and Phuket’s deluxe beach life to the microcosm that is Colombo, they offer the perfect demonstration of Asia’s diversity.

Before you sail for the sixth continent, Silver Whisper sails to India and ports within the Middle East. First, India’s Cochin and Mumbai are visited, where guests can enjoy exploring these unique regions which perfectly encapsulate India’s dynamic and chaotic lifestyle.

Within the Middle East, Silver Whisper settles in Oman’s Muscat and Salalah. Situated on the Dhofar Coast, Salalah is often a recipient of monsoons between the months of June and September. However, this means that throughout the remainder of the year, its a lush landscape of grasslands, river beds and waterfalls.

Africa

The penultimate continent, Africa is a short-lived destination on the Legends of Cruising itinerary, however that doesn’t make it any less noted. Ports here are in Egypt, where guests not only visit Safaga, but also cross the legendary Suez Canal for the transition to Europe.

Safaga, though a little rough around the edges, has a lot to hide beneath its surface. The region has a number of excellent offshore reefs and the waters are a pleasant turquoise, perfect for a quick dip. After a short stay here, Silver Whisper begins the final leg, starting with a sailing through the Suez Canal on to the Mediterranean.

Europe

As the final continent of the cruise, Europe offers a breadth of ports to round-up its finest ports. These include stops in Italy, Spain, Portugal, Norway, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.

Enjoy an amalgamation of European favourites: Rome’s historical sites; Barcelona’s unique cuisine; Lisbon’s steeped alleyways and pastel-coloured houses; Belfast’s Giant’s Causeway; Edinburgh’s castle; Norway’s fjords; and Amsterdam’s laid-back canals.

Amsterdam becomes the final place for Silver Whisper’s Legend of Cruising itinerary, where guests will then fly back to the UK.
