Silversea are set to expand their fleet over the next few years, after signing a memorandum of understanding with German shipbuilder Meyer Werft.
The plans come after a majority stake in Silversea Cruises was acquired by Royal Caribbean Cruises earlier this year, showing us there’s plenty more to come with the new partnership.
The agreement with Meyer Werft includes two new luxury Evolution Class ships, one of which will operate around the Galapagos Islands. The first of these is set to be delivered in 2022.
The third ship is to be built with Dutch shipbuilder, Shipyard De Hoop, who are set to construct the next expedition ship – Silver Origin.
Silver Origin is set to be the fifth ship to join the Expedition fleet and will be arriving in March 2020, when it will take over itineraries currently covered by Silversea’s 100-passenger Silver Galapagos. The size of the three new ships have yet to be unveiled, alongside their names and other details.
Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio, Silversea’s Executive Chairman said:
“With our guests in mind, we are pushing the boundaries of ultra-luxury cruising, as well as expedition cruising in the Galapagos Islands and beyond, redefining the concept of immersive travel.”
All the agreements are set to be finalised at the beginning of 2019, when more details could be revealed.
