The Amalfi Coast is best known for its beautiful scenery, with highlights including the many gorgeous beaches that rank among the best in the whole of Europe. Dramatic cliffs, rolling hills and sleepy villages add to the tranquil and desirable aura of the whole region.
The towns and ports themselves are filled with attractive examples of great architecture, with Positano and Sorrento two of the more interesting examples. The Amalfi Coast is also the place to go if you want to see the ancient ruins of the destroyed city of Pompeii and the breath-taking Mount Vesuvius, while the island of Capri off the coast of Sorrento is decadent and striking.
