New cruise line Explora Journeys is bringing designer style and elegance to the water, and lovers of luxury voyages should definitely pay attention. Guests stepping on-board the first ship Explora I should prepare to achieve ‘an ocean state of mind’, as the line is all about transformative ocean journeys (not cruises).

Life On-board

The all-suite, all-terrace and all-inclusive ship accommodates around 900 guests and is luxurious without being stuffy, with decor and design inspired by the finest boutique hotels.

Along with the many sophisticated indoor and outdoor spaces, the attention to detail is evident, from the global travel books in the spacious staterooms to the heated bathroom floors and sumptuous bed linens.

Outside you’ll find three pools including an aft infinity pool, and an expansive spa and thermal area. Facing forward on deck 12, the adults-only pool and lounge are ideal for soaking up the views – refreshing towels and sunscreen are offered to guests throughout the day.

Unlimited beverages, fine wines and premium spirits, speciality coffees, teas and soft drinks are available anytime, you’ll also find in-suite mini-bars.

There are lots of thoughtful touches throughout the ship, including a signature house fragrance that fills the air with sophisticated scents everywhere you go. Moet et Chandon is the house champagne, and even guests in the lowest category of accommodation (perfectly luxurious in its own right) are welcomed with a bottle upon arrival.

As for itineraries, you can expect some overnights in port, along with off-the-beaten track and niche destinations –– some excursions are also included.

Staterooms

There are 461 oceanfront suites with generous terraces – categories include Ocean Suites, Ocean Penthouses, Ocean Residences and the ultimate Owner’s Residence which comes complete with a welcome bottle of Dom Perignon Vintage 2013.

The ‘Home at Sea’ ethos extends to multigenerational groups thanks to 78 connected suites and solo travellers of all generations.

The attention to detail continues inside the accommodation with Dyson hairstyling drawers in every category, walk-in wardrobes, binoculars, sumptuous Frette bedlinen, and the fluffiest bathrobes and towels – you’ll even find a chaise longue on the generous terraces.

The in-suite entertainment system features movies, TV and global music to suit all tastes, there are walk-in wardrobes, and bathrooms with large showers, high-end fixtures and fittings and more shelf space than many urban apartments.

Drinking & Dining

There are six restaurants inspired by nine distinct culinary experiences, and 12 bars and lounges – eight indoor and four outdoor – along with Journeys Lounge which features daily enrichment and entertainment.

Guests can expect to find menus and wine selections drawn from local cultures and regional areas where the ship sails. Venues include Anthology by Mauro Uliassi, a three-Michelin-starred chef who curates an eight-course tasting menu inspired by the Italian Adriatic coast; and Sakura, which serves up traditional Pan-Asian cuisine in a space featuring distinct Japanese design cues.

With space for 12 guests, the Chef’s Kitchen is an immersive experience held in an ocean-front private kitchen. Culinary experts will guide foodies no matter what their skill level, through a culinary journey of ingredients, flavours, and cultures, evolving around the destinations visited by Explora I. The experience also extends ashore, with visits to local markets and hand-picked producers.

But if guests want the exceptional food to come to them, ‘staying in’ to dine and watch a movie is easy, thanks to in-suite dining which is complimentary and available 24 hours a day.

Wellness

The Ocean Wellness Spa is a tranquil 700 square metre space featuring 11 treatment rooms, a large hydrotherapy pool, an ice fountain, saunas, relaxation rooms and even crystal-infused water to rehydrate following your experience.

Taking its cue from the ocean’s natural forces to invigorate senses and spirits, five wellbeing pillars – energy, sleep, relaxation, mindfulness and immunity – encourage guests to achieve physical and spiritual renewal.

The experience is complemented by world-class brands including Aromatherapy Associates, Dr Levy and The Tides Wellness, and 21 innovative treatments featuring techniques such as lymphatic drainage, breathwork and cryotherapy.

Wellbeing and fitness programmes, both on board and at the destinations, are also available to guests.
