The island of Komodo is renowned for its population of Komodo dragons - giant lizards that are the world’s largest and heaviest. These dinosaur relatives are truly magnificent beasts, and guests to Komodo will be able to explore the island and see them in their natural habitat, now established as a National Park and named as one of the New Seven Wonders of Nature. The diverse terrain and harsh climate is well suited to these animals but makes for a rugged expedition so be sure to wear comfy shoes while you travel the island.
Despite many visitors travelling here just to see the Komodo dragons, the island is also host to a huge array of marine wildlife too, with over 1,000 species of fish, over 200 species of coral as well as sharks, dolphins, sea turtles, whales and more. The island is also home to one of only seven pink beaches in the entire world, offering the ideal place to unwind with some sunbathing or swimming, as well as snorkelling opportunities to see the diverse marine wildlife for yourself.
The currency on Komodo Island is the Indonesian Rupiah. Komodo Island is 8 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT +8).
