Athletes shun Olympic Village in favour of cruise ship

Silver Cloud - Silversea

Team USA’s Olympic basketball team, have shunned their accommodation at the Olympic Village in favour of a luxury cruise ship.

Both the male and female athletes have opted to stay on-board Silversea’s ship Silver Cloud, which has been docked at Pier Maua in Rio harbour. It’s believed that their sponsors, Cisco, are picking up the bill. The team have shared snaps to social media, posing by the pool and sipping drinks.

The super-soft beds and luxurious lounges make a stark contrast to the accommodation that they were originally offered – some athletes have complained about exposed wiring and smells of sewerage in the Olympic Village.

However, it’s not all been plain sailing for the athletes on-board the ship. The beds are no larger than you would find in a hotel, which has been providing issues for some of the team, most of whom are over 6 foot 6 in height.

As well the luxury accommodation on-board, the basketball team are enjoying their own chefs, private cars and a 24-hour security team. The players have always enjoyed the best of the best, with salaries worth millions in addition to these perks.
