Apia, Western Samoa
The city of Apia is Samoa’s capital, located on the northern coast of Upolu, which is the archipelago’s second largest island. Apia’s tropical Polynesian climate and spectacular natural landscape have enchanted visitors for generations, drawing tourists from across the world to its beautiful sandy shores. The city and surrounding regions of Samoa are famous for their lush forests, exquisite beaches, blue ocean waters, dramatic mountains and vibrant local culture. Piula Cave Pool
The Piula Cave Pool is an incredible freshwater cave pool situated close to the old Methodist Church. The pool connects two small caves via an underground waterway and is the ideal place to relax and take a dip in the clear water to cool off. Swimmers must be careful not to do damage any of the marine life in the cave pool when they are paddling and cooling off.
Pe’ape’a Cave
The Pe’ape’a cave is the reward for an hour’s trek through the dense Samoan jungle. Hikers will find a dry river bed in the rainforest that leads to the entrance to the cave. This dark and imposing cave is one of the islands most mysterious locations and is worth visiting for intrepid ramblers who will enjoy the long jungle trek to reach it.
Robert Louis Stevenson Museum
The great Robert Louise Stevenson, author of many literary greats including Treasure Island, Kidnapped and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, had a great love of the Samoan islands and the city of Apia. He is even buried at the top Samoa’s most prominent mountain, Mount Vaea. The museum contains many personal artefacts and memorabilia collected by Stevenson whilst he stayed in the region, all of which is well preserved and gives fascinating insight into his life.
