Gardner Bay (espanola) Port

Isla Espanola, often called Hood Island after being named in honour of Samuel Hood, is one of the oldest of the Galapagos Islands. It’s also one of the driest, making for some dramatic scenery. Visitors most often head to Punta Suarez, at the west of the island, as the sheer cliffs provide a fantastic nesting place for seabirds. On a typical visit you may see Swallow-tailed Gulls, Nazca Boobies and Blue-footed Boobies nesting on the shores, whilst the impressive Waved Albatross can also be seen during the warmer summer months.

It’s a destination that these birds often use as a mating spot, so don’t be surprised if you witness elaborate displays as part of the complex rituals these birds use to pair off. You may also be able to see mockingbirds, doves and Galapagos Hawks patrolling the skies, so make sure you pack your camera on your luxury voyage. The waters are also home to sea lions, while marine iguanas often call the cliffs home too. The sheer variety of wildlife makes this a truly fascinating port of call.

The currency in Espanola is the US Dollar. Espanola is 6 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT -6).
