Located between the mouth of the St. Lawrence River and the Atlantic coastline, the city of Gaspe is situated on the Gaspe Peninsula of south eastern Quebec in Canada. The peninsula is a vast area of incredible natural beauty, littered with verdant forests, powerful rivers, scenic coastline and imposing mountainous regions, teaming with wildlife as well as beautiful flora and fauna. The northern area of the city is very sparsely populated apart from a few small, quaint fishing villages, whilst the south of the Gaspe is a popular tourist destination all year round. Due to heavy snowfall in the winter months, the Chic Choc Mountains in the centre of the peninsula are an ideal location for skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts. Gaspe’s ambience fluctuates between the peaceful and the exciting depending on location, making it a fantastically diverse and exhilarating cruise destination.
A number of enthralling guided tours around the peninsula and riveting sea excursions are available from Gaspe, allowing tourists a greater insight in the area’s history, culture and wildlife. Other activities, including sea fishing and climbing, are also popular across the peninsular, with travellers from across the world arriving to experience the distinctive and imposing backdrop of this amazing part of Quebec. Gaspe is most famous for its areas of superb natural beauty, including lush forests, craggy mountains and several splendid beaches.
Percé Rock is one of the most popular natural tourist attractions on the peninsula of Gaspe. Located offshore in the Atlantic Ocean, the rock is famous for its unique shape and distinctive tunnel, which burrows from one end to the other. At low tide, visitors can walk out to the rock, or alternatively, it can be seen from the shore or visited by boat.
Bonaventure Island is located in the Gulf of St. Lawrence off the southern coast of the Gaspe Peninsula. The island is famous for its massive gannet breeding colony and is home to other birds including puffins, kittiwakes and murres at certain times of the year.
