Covering an area of around 185 hectares, South Jakarta's Ragunan Zoo houses around 3600 species of animals from across the country. Exhibits include the astonishingly rare Komodo dragon as well as gorillas and many other primates.
Jakarta contains several exciting theme parks with attractions for people of all ages. One of the most popular in the region is the Ancol Dream Park, which contains its own range of smaller parks including the Dunai Fantasi, (Fantasy World), Atlantis Water Adventure, Seaworld, and Gelanggang Samudra (Ocean Park). As one of the most thrilling theme parks in Asia, it attracts throngs of visitors every year. However, Indonesia's largest and newest theme park, Jungleland Sentul City, is located in the Bogor regency of Jakarta and has a wider variety of rides and attractions when compared to Dunai Fantasi.
National Monument (Monas)
The National Monument, also known as Monas, is situated at Lapangan Merdeka (Freedom Square) and stands an impressive 137 metres tall. A climb to the observation deck of this colossal landmark is rewarded with spectacular views across the city, whilst the base of the structure contains an interesting display of Indonesian history.
