Rio Carnival

As a country blessed with one of the world’s best-known carnivals and the greatest and most diverse ecosystem, it can be hard to decide where to begin with Brazil. Brazilian festas (festivals) occur throughout the year and showcase the diversity of this amazing region. It goes without saying that no matter where you visit in Brazil, there will always be music, dancing, and those infectious rhythms which strike up a carefree love for life in all of us.

Held every year before Lent (typically starting on Friday until Tuesday or just a day after Ash Wednesday), Carnival in Rio de Janeiro is a festival which is considered the biggest carnival in the world, with two million people per day attending.

Typically, during the Rio carnival parade the streets are filled with floats, and large decoration from around 200 samba schools which are located in Rio. A samba school is a collaboration of local neighbours that wish to attend the carnival together, with either a regional, geographical or common background.
